Use numbers from an Excel file
Bring figures from an Excel workbook into a Pitchcrow sheet, by pasting them or by asking Pitchcrow.
You can't open an Excel file as a Pitchcrow sheet. But there are two ways to get its numbers in.
Copy and paste
- In Excel, select the cells and copy them.
- In the Pitchcrow sheet, click the cell where the top-left corner should go.
- Press CommandVCtrlV.
The values come across with most of their look, like bold text, fill colors, and number formats. If the paste runs past the last row or column, Pitchcrow adds more for you.
Ask Pitchcrow to pull the numbers in
This works well for a big model, or for numbers spread across many tabs.
- Upload the Excel file to the space. Or attach it to your message.
- In the sheet, open the Chat tab on the right.
- Say what you need. For example: "From the FY24 model in this space, pull the income statement into a new tab, and keep the formulas."
Pitchcrow can read every tab of the Excel file. It writes the numbers and formulas into your sheet, then formats them.
Good to know
- Pasting from Excel brings the results of formulas, not the formulas themselves. To keep formulas, ask Pitchcrow to rebuild them, or type them again. See Use formulas.
- Use the keyboard to paste. On Windows, pasting Excel cells from the right-click menu shows a note asking you to use the keyboard instead.
- A sheet Pitchcrow rebuilds won't look exactly like the Excel file. Ask it to change the formatting, or format the cells yourself.
- You need to be an Admin or Editor of the space to change a sheet or use chat. See Space roles.
